TOVE LO BEARERS NO SHAME IN HER TIT GAME

MONICA RIVERA

I didn’t feel a single bit sorry for lugging my boyfriend to a Tove Lo concert since he basically scored himself tickets to a peep show. This ultimate girl boss has introduced a whole new level of confidence to the music industry, and she isn’t afraid to show it (literally).

Her performances are for the books. Think of a sexy female version of Michael Jackson; crotch grabs, floor gropes and a lot of sweat. Although, she reveals some serious nip action during her iconic song, Talking Body, so maybe think more along the lines of a Janet Jackson’s situation; but on purpose. Tove Lo has no shame when it comes to proving her sexuality is more than just a persona, and she definitely owns that sh*t.

We’ve seen similar approaches to music with pop artists like Madonna, Britney, and Christina Aguilera. It’s like they discover their vaginas overnight and suddenly their music knows it. They go from every female adolescent’s role model to wearing clothes small enough to fit my American Girl Doll from when I was five. However, this Swedish singer-songwriter rendered no warning prior to writing songs solely about sex, licking inanimate objects for album covers, and flashing her boobs at concerts shocking boyfriends all over America. Let’s just say she’s not one for the prudes.

Tove Lo’s artistry has proven to be who she really is aside from using it for entertainment purposes. She’s the storyteller behind it all, and she takes complete ownership of her craft. Glitz, glam, and the tired pop star exterior is not to be expected from this bad b*tch. Her authenticity is what compelled me the second I heard Habits, her more popular song of 2014, and I was hooked ever since. It’s more than a cliché song about heartbreak; it’s raw, gritty, and unapologetic. Her creative and effective ability to communicate internal pain through a series of self-destruction could not be more relatable after a messy breakup.

Her delivery is far from fabricated and holding back isn’t exactly her strong suit. She sets the tone for women embracing their sexuality as she strokes her own sweat while making imaginary snow angels on the stage floor. This isn’t another generic T Swift song about courtship and castles—it’s a voice and performance that puts into words what my heart can’t. Take it or leave it—this baddie knows how to work the crowd.
